Market capitalisation ÷ shareholders' equityPrice against book value, the owners' accounting stake. Informative where the assets are physical — mines, property, ships — and much less so where the value is people and software, neither of which appears on a balance sheet.
How to read it
market cap over shareholders' equity. Says little about a company whose value is people and software, since neither is on the balance sheet; says a lot about one holding mines or property
